The Old Barn
The Old Barn stands on its own at the far end of the farmyard. It is a traditional Monmouthshire agricultural building, with arrow-slit windows, and triangular owl holes to encourage barn owls into the building and thus keep the rodents at bay. In our conversion, we have retained all its historical features, while adding modern comforts and conveniences.....and excluding the rodents!
Inside, the barn is a stylish mix of old and new, with contemporary furniture and lighting alongside traditional oak timbers and antiques. The kitchen is superbly equipped, reflecting our own love of food – a homemade cake and six eggs from our free-range ducks and hens are part of the package and lamb from the farm is available. In the living room a woodburner gives a cosy feel on chillier days, and there is wi-fi , a radio, CD player with i-pod dock, DVD player, board games and loads of books. The utility room houses the washing machine and provides plenty of space for your outdoor gear. Upstairs is reached by a cast iron spiral staircase, and folding oak doors lead out from the living room to sunny seating areas to north and south. Off the courtyard is an old byre with table tennis and table football.
All our bedrooms are designed for your ultimate comfort with natural feather and down duvets and pillows and 100% cotton bedlinen and towels. Each one also boasts splendid views up to Sugar Loaf.
West Bedroom This is a bright and sunny room, with solid oak floor, large oak double bed, armchair, dressing table and antique oak wardrobe.
East Bedroom This is a cosy space, with two roomy 3’6” oak beds and a lovely old oak settle. Just outside on the landing is huge Liberty print sofa. Perched above the living room with its woodburner, this is a great place for relaxing with a book and soaking in the atmosphere of the barn.
Family bathroom with roll top cast-iron bath
Bat Room So called because a loft for the lesser horseshoe bats is just above it – sealed off of course! This room has its own entrance from the courtyard. There is an antique mahogany king-size bed and a dressing table and oak wardrobe. Adjoining is an ensuite wetroom.

The Feel Good Factor
In converting the barn we have used traditional Welsh slate, oak and lime alongside green materials which allow the building to breathe. Sheep’s wool insulation keeps you warm and photovoltaic panels help to power the air source heat pump which runs the underfloor heating. There is even custom-built accommodation for the bats and swallows!
